Western
This region is known for its resource generation such as power, coal, forestry, agriculture and water.
Over 50% of the Western region is protected in reserves including significant areas of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. The Coxs and Kowmung Rivers flow into Sydney's water supply at Lake Burragorang. The region is a significant for biodiversity in the catchment because it provides a transition from the mountains to the western slopes and the plains. The region is home to major tourist destinations in the Blue Mountains, Jenolan Caves and western slopes and includes the historic townships of Lithgow and Katoomba. New Aboriginal Advisory Committee appointed for the Hawkesbury-Nepean - 11 November 2009
A new Aboriginal Advisory Committee has been appointed to advise the Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority (HNCMA) on managing natural resources in the catchment. Major gains made in protecting NSW and local natural resources - 2 November 2009 The NSW Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) have released a report highlighting major gains in repairing and improving the health of the natural landscape across the State after only five years of operation. Pigs contolled in local valleys to protect biodiversity - 1 October 2009 A project to rid private property of destructive feral pigs in the Megalong and Kanimbla valleys is proving successful with 768 pigs removed from the area through trapping and poisoning since March.
