The Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority (HNCMA) is currently offering community groups, organisations and local councils interested in conserving our coast and the Hawkesbury estuary to express their interest in the funding available for community engagement projects for 2010 - 2012.

Funding applications are open until 12th November 2010.

Project grants between $5 000 to $20 000 can be applied for that aim to improve coastal and estuary areas of the catchment, from Wisemans Ferry in the Hawkesbury to the beaches of Pittwater.  Applications for project ideas upto $50 000 will be considered for strategic partnership projects within the coastal zone.

Projects should focus on

  • engaging the coastal community in natural resource management projects including training indigenous community workers and youth targeted projects,
  • capacity building to provide the community with skills to manage their local environment,
  • building community awareness of the value of the estuary and coastal environments, and
  • strategic on-ground works in coastal habitats including: beaches, dune systems, estuaries, intertidal zones,  inlets, coastal wetlands, islands, mangroves, coastal woodlands and heathlands.

Funding is available for onground practical environmental works or for education and awareness-raising activities which support onground improvements.   To identify if your group or project idea is eligible for funding download the map of the Hawkesbury Estuary and Coastal zone.

Community members interested in discussing funding opportunities should contact the HNCMA on (02) 4725 3055 or download an Expression of Interest form and funding guidelines here
